Sometimes a single sample changes the entire direction of a remix.
When SidTrippy and I started working on our take on “Badu Flow,” we were inspired by a 90s sample that instantly set the mood. From that point on, everything else fell into place. Instead of following the heavier bounce of the original, we built the track around that sample and gave it a more upbeat, feel-good groove.
The drums are livelier, the bass hits with plenty of weight, and the whole remix carries an energy that makes you want to turn the volume up. BigXthaPlug’s vocal stays at the center of the track while the new production adds a fresh rhythm and a little more sunshine without losing its confidence.
Working with my longtime collaborator SidTrippy is always a creative process. We tend to bounce ideas back and forth until something unexpected happens, and this remix is a perfect example of that. What started with one sample quickly turned into one of those tracks that just puts you in a good mood.
