Sometimes the best remixes come from pushing a song deeper into its own world.
YTB Fatt’s “Calm It Down” already carries the energy and attitude of modern trap, so instead of taking it into a completely different genre, I wanted to stay true to that foundation and explore a darker side of the sound.
This remix is built around a haunting sample inspired by the infamous “Jayco” associated with Skrilla’s production team, creating an eerie atmosphere that sets the tone for the entire track. Heavy rolling 808 patterns drive the remix while leaving space for the haunting vocal textures to breathe and add tension throughout.
The goal was to keep it rooted in trap while adding some darker influences from the drill world. The drum patterns bring in hints of that sharper, more aggressive rhythm, but the track still lives firmly in the trap lane with deep bass, hard-hitting drums, and a heavy bounce.
I love experimenting with the space between genres, and this remix sits right in that pocket where trap, drill, and darker underground production overlap. It’s a different perspective on the original while keeping the energy and confidence that made the track stand out.
Whether you’re playing it in the car, through a big system, or just letting the bass hit through headphones, this one was built around atmosphere, weight, and movement.
